AEKKEA-Raab R26-V

The AEKKEA‑Raab R26‑V is a twin‑engine, turboprop‑electric regional transport developed by the Greek‑German partnership AEKKEA‑RAAB. Design work began in 2018 as a response to EU directives encouraging lower‑emission short‑haul aircraft. The prototype rolled out in March 2022 and performed its maiden flight on 14 June 2022 from Thessaloniki‑Makedonia Airport. After a rigorous flight‑test program that demonstrated a 30 % reduction in fuel burn compared with conventional turboprops, the R26‑V received type certification from EASA in October 2024 and entered limited series production in early 2025.

Key features include a carbon‑fiber composite airframe, a high‑aspect‑ratio 28‑meter wing with adaptive trailing‑edge flaps, and a hybrid propulsion system that pairs two Pratt & Whitney PW150A turboprops with electric generators feeding aft‑mounted ducted fans. The aircraft incorporates full‑fly‑by‑wire controls, a glass cockpit based on the ARINC 661 standard, and an advanced health‑monitoring suite that predicts maintenance needs. Seating for 26 passengers, a spacious cabin, and a range of 1 800 km make it ideal for regional routes.

The R26‑V’s successful integration of hybrid propulsion and digital avionics has set a benchmark for sustainable regional aviation, influencing subsequent designs from both established manufacturers and emerging startups.
