AERO Vodochody Aerospace

A.26

The AERO Vodochody Aerospace A.26 is a modern, twin‑engine jet that entered service in 2023 as a versatile trainer and light‑combat platform. Development began in 2018 under the project name “Skybird”, aiming to replace ageing basic trainers in Central European air forces while offering a cost‑effective strike capability. The aircraft incorporates a largely composite airframe, fly‑by‑wire controls and a digital glass cockpit with multifunction displays that can be reconfigured for pilot training, reconnaissance or weapons delivery. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW535 turbofans, the A.26 delivers a maximum thrust of 3,200 lb each, giving a top speed of Mach 0.78 and a combat radius of 650 km. Its hardpoint arrangement supports up to 2 000 kg of ordnance, including precision‑guided missiles, rockets and external fuel tanks. Advanced avionics such as an integrated inertial navigation system, helmet‑mounted cueing and a tactical data link permit seamless operation in joint environments. Since its introduction, the A.26 has been adopted by the Czech, Slovak and Polish air forces, and its export success has reinforced AERO Vodochody’s reputation for delivering reliable, multi‑role aircraft that bridge the gap between basic trainers and front‑line fighters.
