AISA I-115

The AISA I‑115 was a two‑seat primary trainer produced in Spain by Aeronáutica Industrial S.A. (AISA) in the late 1940s and early 1950s, a period when the country was rebuilding its civil and military aviation capability after the civil war. Development began in 1947, using the proven wooden construction techniques of earlier AISA models, and the aircraft first flew on 20 March 1948. Powered by a 105 hp Continental C‑90 flat‑four engine, the I‑115 featured a low‑wing monoplane layout, fixed conventional landing gear, and an open cockpit that could be fitted with a removable canopy for weather protection. Its simple, lightweight design offered forgiving handling characteristics, making it ideal for novice pilots learning basic aerobatics, navigation, and instrument procedures. Approximately 80 examples were built, serving the Spanish Air Force, flight clubs, and regional training schools. The I‑115’s significance lies in providing a domestically produced, reliable training platform that helped re‑establish Spain’s pilot training infrastructure, contributed to the post‑war aviation renaissance, and demonstrated AISA’s ability to design and manufacture competent aircraft with limited resources.
