A-22 Foxbat

The Aeroprakt A‑22 Foxbat is a Ukrainian‑designed, high‑wing light sport aircraft that first flew in 1999 and entered series production in 2000. Developed by the Kyiv‑based company Aeroprakt, the Foxbat was created to fill a niche for an affordable, easy‑to‑operate trainer and recreational airplane that could also serve agricultural and utility roles. Its fabric‑covered steel tube fuselage and aluminum wing structure give a rugged yet lightweight airframe, while the spacious 2‑plus‑1 seating layout provides excellent visibility and comfort for pilot, passenger, and optional observer. Powered typically by a Rotax 912ULS or 912S engine delivering 100 hp, the aircraft achieves a cruise speed of 115 knots, a range of 600 km, and short‑field performance thanks to its large flaps and low stall speed of 38 knots. Flight characteristics are praised for stability, gentle handling, and low operating costs, making the A‑22 popular in flight schools across Europe, Russia and North America. Its versatility, simple construction, and cost‑effectiveness have cemented the Foxbat’s significance as a modern classic in the light‑sport sector, influencing subsequent designs in the microlight market. Today more than 500 units are operated worldwide, demonstrating its lasting appeal among private pilots and training organisations.
