AB 206B-3 JetRanger

The Agusta‑Bell 206B‑3 JetRanger, often referred to simply as the AB 206B‑3, is the Italian‑produced version of Bell’s iconic light helicopter. First rolled out in the late 1960s, the model entered service with Agusta in 1970 and quickly became a staple for civil and military operators across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Its development built upon the success of the original Bell 206, incorporating a more powerful Allison 250‑C30B turboshaft engine, refined rotor blades, and an upgraded transmission that boosted maximum take‑off weight to 1,315 kg. The aircraft’s compact airframe, three‑seat cabin and simple, reliable systems made it ideal for utility roles such as aerial photography, law‑enforcement patrols, medical evacuation and pilot training. Thanks to its low operating costs and excellent maneuverability, the JetRanger set a benchmark for light helicopters, influencing subsequent designs like the Bell 206L‑3 LongRanger and numerous licensed copies worldwide. Its enduring presence in both civilian fleets and armed forces underscores its significance as a versatile workhorse that helped democratize rotary‑wing aviation and cement the reputation of Agusta as a premier helicopter manufacturer.
