AB 206C-1 JetRanger

The Agusta AB 206C‑1 JetRanger is an Italian‑built version of Bell’s iconic 206 series, assembled under licence by Agusta starting in 1978. Developed from the original Bell 206A, the C‑1 model introduced a more powerful Lycoming IO‑360‑DA1A engine delivering 210 hp, a three‑blade fully articulated main rotor and an upgraded transmission that increased payload capacity and climb performance. Its light‑weight airframe, all‑metal construction and hinged, “teetering” rotor system made the JetRanger exceptionally versatile for utility, training and law‑enforcement missions. The aircraft’s spacious cabin could accommodate a pilot and three passengers, while a series of optional equipment – such as external searchlights, radio‑navigation pods and rescue hoist – allowed customization for military, medical evacuation and offshore‑oil support roles. Over 3,000 units were produced worldwide, and the AB 206C‑1 became a staple of both civil and military fleets, renowned for its reliability, low operating costs and ease of maintenance. Its success helped establish Agusta as a major helicopter manufacturer and contributed to the global popularity of the Bell‑derived light utility platform throughout the late 20th century. Its ease of handling made it popular in international peacekeeping, serving from Middle‑East deserts to South‑American jungles.
