iXess

The iXess is a lightweight, single‑seat trike ultralight produced by French manufacturer Air Création. Introduced in 2006, the model succeeded the popular Air Création GT series and quickly became a benchmark for recreational flying in the European microlight community. Built around a high‑strength aluminum frame and a fabric‑covered wing, the iXess employs a flexible delta wing that can be folded for transport, allowing pilots to tow the aircraft on a standard car roof rack. Power is supplied by a liquid‑cooled Rotax 912UL engine delivering 80 hp, matched to a 3‑blade composite propeller that ensures smooth acceleration and low vibration. Key features include an ergonomic cockpit with a digital instrumentation suite, integrated GPS, and a quick‑release harness for rapid egress. The trike’s low stall speed of 35 km/h and a maximum cruise of 180 km/h give it a versatile performance envelope suitable for both beginners and experienced pilots. Its impact on aviation lies in popularising affordable, high‑quality ultralight travel, encouraging regulatory bodies to recognise trike categories and inspiring a new generation of pilots across Europe and beyond. Today the iXess remains a flagship model, regularly showcased at airshows and celebrated for its reliability and cost‑efficiency.
