Bimax

The Bimax, produced by Spanish manufacturer Airfer, entered the ultralight market in 2004 as a two‑seat side‑by‑side high‑wing microlight. Developed from the earlier Airfer Single, the Bimax was conceived to combine the simplicity of a single‑seat trainer with the versatility required for dual instruction and short‑range touring. Its design incorporates a lightweight aluminum tube frame, composite skin panels and a cantilever wing equipped with full‑length flaps, providing gentle stall characteristics and a low stall speed of 38 km/h. Powered typically by a Rotax 912ULS four‑cylinder engine delivering 100 hp, the aircraft achieves a cruise of 210 km/h while remaining under the 450 kg maximum take‑off weight imposed by European microlight regulations. The cockpit features a bubble canopy, dual controls, and an integrated avionics suite that can accommodate GPS, transponder and engine monitoring. Since its introduction, the Bimax has been adopted by flight schools across Spain and Portugal, praised for its forgiving handling and low operating costs. Its success helped solidify Airfer’s reputation as an innovator in the light‑sport sector and demonstrated the commercial viability of modern, dual‑purpose microlight designs. Today the Bimax remains in production, with continual upgrades to engine efficiency and digital instrumentation, ensuring its relevance for the next generation of recreational pilots.
