Beechcraft

Premier IA

The Premier IA is a light business jet developed by Beechcraft in the mid‑1990s as the third generation of the company’s Premier family. Originating from the original Premier I, which entered service in 1998, the IA (Improved Aerodynamics) version was certified in 2001 after a comprehensive redesign that incorporated a newly shaped wing, upgraded Pratt & Whitney Canada PW535E engines, and a modern glass cockpit. These changes boosted cruise speed to Mach 0.78, extended range to roughly 1,400 nautical miles, and lowered fuel burn by about 10 percent compared to its predecessor. The cabin, configured for up to eight passengers, offers a flat floor, larger windows, and optional executive finishes, positioning the aircraft as a cost‑effective alternative to larger midsize jets. Over 200 units were produced before the program ended in 2007, and many remain in service with corporate operators, charter companies, and air‑ambulance fleets worldwide. The Premier IA’s blend of performance, cabin comfort, and operating economics helped solidify Beechcraft’s reputation in the light‑jet market and demonstrated the viability of incremental aerodynamic upgrades in extending the commercial life of an aircraft platform.
