EMT Luna NG

The EMT Luna NG is a light sport aircraft produced by the German manufacturer EMT Penzberg. Development began in 2015 when EMT, known for its innovative ultralight designs, set out to replace the original Luna model with a more efficient, aerodynamically refined version. First flight took place in spring 2018 and type certification was granted by the European Aviation Safety Agency in late 2019, allowing delivery to flight schools and private owners across Europe and North America.

Key features include a carbon‑fiber monocoque fuselage, a low‑drag laminar‑flow wing with interchangeable wingtips, and a 100‑horsepower Rotax 912iS engine paired with a full‑authorisation digital glass cockpit. The aircraft’s retractable tricycle landing gear and optional ballistic parachute system raise safety standards for the sport‑category market. Cruise speed reaches 260 km/h (140 knots) while fuel consumption stays under 15 L/h, giving a range of more than 1,300 km.

The Luna NG’s significance stems from its blend of high‑performance aerodynamics, modern avionics, and affordable operating costs, which have helped revive interest in light sport aviation and set a new benchmark for compact, low‑environmental‑impact aircraft in the 2020s.
