Extra EA-260
The Extra EA‑260 is a high‑performance, single‑seat aerobatic monoplane produced by the German company Extra Aircraft. Developed in the late 1990s by aerobatic champion Walter Extra, the EA‑260 first flew in 1999 as the evolution of the successful EA‑200 series. Powered by a 260‑horsepower Lycoming AEIO‑540 engine driving a three‑bladed constant‑speed propeller, the aircraft combines a carbon‑fiber wing and empennage with a steel tube fuselage covered in composite skins, delivering an exceptional power‑to‑weight ratio. With a maximum roll rate exceeding 500 degrees per second and a +/-10‑g structural limit, it is capable of the most demanding sequences demanded in international competition. Modern avionics, a fully harmonized control system, and adjustable trim make it both precise and forgiving for pilots. Since entering service, the EA‑260 has dominated World Aerobatic Championships and Red Bull Air Races, influencing subsequent aerobatic designs worldwide. Its blend of advanced materials, robust engineering, and unmatched agility established a new benchmark for sport aviation, cementing Extra Aircraft’s reputation as a leader in high‑performance aerobatic aircraft. Production continues in Augsburg, with over 120 units delivered to pilots across Europe, North America and Asia, each certified under EASA and FAA standards, ensuring worldwide operational support.
