G 520

The Grob G 520 is a high‑performance, twin‑engine turboprop aircraft developed by the German manufacturer Grob Aircraft in the early 1990s. Conceived as a versatile platform for civilian and military roles, the G 520 first flew on 31 March 1994 and received certification in 1996. Its airframe, built primarily from carbon‑fiber reinforced plastic, gives the airplane a lightweight yet robust structure, contributing to a cruise speed of 340 kt and a range exceeding 2,500 nm. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney PT6A‑34 turboprops, the G 520 offers excellent climb performance and fuel efficiency. The cockpit features a fully glass avionics suite with digital flight displays, interchangeable mission equipment, and side‑by‑side seating for two crew members. Over the years the type has been adopted by several air forces for light transport, surveillance, and training, while civilian operators use it for executive travel and aerial survey work. The G 520’s combination of modern composite construction, twin‑engine reliability, and adaptable mission hardware has made it a benchmark for high‑speed turboprop utility aircraft, influencing subsequent Grob designs and reinforcing Europe’s capability in advanced light aircraft manufacturing. It remains in service today.
