Boeing 747-400BDSF

The Boeing 747‑400BDSF is a converted freighter version of the iconic 747‑400, rebuilt by Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI) under the Boeing Converted Freighter program. The conversion process began in the early 2000s, when aging passenger 747‑400s were offered a second life as cargo aircraft. IAI’s facility in Israel performs structural modifications, installs a new main‑deck cargo door, reinforces the floor, and integrates a modern avionics suite. The result is a high‑capability freighter capable of carrying up to 112 metric tonnes, with a payload volume of roughly 30,000 cubic feet, and a range exceeding 4,500 nautical miles while fully loaded. The 747‑400BDSF retains the original four‑engine, high‑wing configuration, providing reliability and the ability to operate from a broad network of airports. Its fuel‑efficient Rolls‑Royce RB211 or Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines contribute to lower operating costs compared with older freighters. The aircraft has become a workhorse for major logistics carriers, supporting intercontinental e‑commerce, humanitarian aid, and time‑critical shipments. By extending the service life of existing airframes, the 747‑400BDSF illustrates sustainable aviation practices while preserving the legendary capacity and versatility of the “Queen of the Skies.”
