NH90 TTH
The NH90 Tactical Transport Helicopter (TTH) is a medium‑size, twin‑engine rotorcraft developed by NHIndustries, a tri‑national consortium comprising Airbus Helicopters (France), Leonardo (Italy) and Fokker Aerostructures (Netherlands). Launched in the late 1990s to meet NATO’s Future Helicopter Capability programme, the NH90 first flew in 1995 and entered service with the German Army in 2005, followed by numerous European and non‑European armed forces. Its all‑composite airframe, coupled with a fully digital fly‑by‑wire cockpit, represents a shift toward reduced weight, lower maintenance and enhanced survivability. Powered by two Turbomeca (Safran) RTM322 or General Electric CT7-8A engines, the TTH delivers a maximum take‑off weight of about 10.6 tonnes, a cruise speed near 260 km/h, and a range exceeding 850 km with internal fuel. Key features include a modular interior that can be reconfigured for troops, cargo, medical evacuation or electronic warfare, a glass cockpit with four multifunction displays, and a health‑and‑usage‑monitoring system that streams real‑time diagnostics. The NH90 TTH’s versatility and interoperability have cemented its role as a cornerstone of modern military aviation, enabling rapid deployment, multi‑role missions and seamless integration within NATO’s joint operational framework.
