FT337G Super Skymaster

The Reims‑built FT337G Super Skymaster is a French license‑produced version of the Cessna 337 Super Skymaster, first assembled in the early 1970s at the Reims Aviation factory. Developed to meet European demand for a powerful twin‑engine, push‑pull aircraft, the Super Skymaster combined the distinctive twin‑engine layout—one tractor propeller at the nose and one pusher at the rear—with a robust airframe that could operate from short, unprepared strips. The FT337G is powered by two Lycoming O‑540‑A4B5, each delivering 300 hp, providing a maximum cruise speed of roughly 210 kt and a service ceiling above 25 000 ft. Its all‑metal construction, spacious cabin, and generous useful load made it popular for utility roles, sky‑diving, and light cargo transport. The aircraft’s unique configuration offered excellent forward visibility and reduced asymmetric thrust concerns, simplifying handling for pilots transitioning from single‑engine types. Although production ceased in the late 1990s, the FT337G remains a notable example of Franco‑American collaboration, illustrating how Reims Aviation adapted a classic American design to meet the specific operational and regulatory needs of the European market, and it continues to be valued by a dedicated community of operators worldwide.
