GlobalEye
The GlobalEye is Saab Group’s long‑range airborne early‑warning and command‑and‑control platform, introduced in 2017 as the evolution of the earlier Erieye family. Developed from the ERJ‑145 regional jet, it integrates Saab’s proven Erieye‑EL radar with a modern mission suite, a glass cockpit and extensive communications payloads. The aircraft’s first flight took place in December 2018, and its initial operational capability was achieved in 2020, quickly attracting interest from NATO members and other allied nations seeking a versatile, medium‑size AEW solution. Key features include a conformal active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar that provides 360‑degree coverage up to 450 km, advanced electronic‑support measures, and satellite‑link data fusion that enable real‑time situational awareness for air, maritime and land domains. The twin‑engine jet can stay aloft for more than 10 hours, and its modular payload bays allow rapid reconfiguration for electronic warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. The GlobalEye’s significance lies in delivering a cost‑effective, rapidly deployable platform that bridges the capability gap between larger, carrier‑based AWACS and smaller tactical systems, enhancing coalition interoperability and reinforcing modern air‑defence networks worldwide.
