Sperwill TX
The Sperwill TX is a high‑performance, single‑engine light sport aircraft produced by the British firm Sperwill Ltd. Development began in 2012 when the company, originally known for unmanned platforms, decided to enter the manned market. After two years of wind‑tunnel testing and prototype refinement, the TX made its maiden flight on 14 March 2015 at Shoreham Airport, marking Sperwill Ltd’s transition from experimental drones to certified aircraft. The TX features a carbon‑fiber monocoque fuselage, a 115‑horsepower Rotax 915 iS turbocharged engine, and a low‑drag laminar‑flow wing with a 9.1‑meter span. Integrated fly‑by‑wire controls, a glass cockpit with dual 12‑inch displays, and an optional ballistic recovery system give pilots modern safety and situational awareness. Its cruise speed of 260 km/h, range of 1,200 km, and fuel‑efficient turbo system make it competitive with traditional two‑seat trainers while offering sport‑aviation agility. The Sperwill TX has been adopted by flight schools and private owners across Europe, influencing regulatory discussions about light‑sport certification standards. Its blend of cutting‑edge materials, advanced avionics, and accessible operating costs positions the TX as a milestone in the evolution of affordable, high‑performance general aviation aircraft.
