Sukhoi Superjet New

The Sukhoi Superjet New, produced by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft, represents the latest evolution of Russia’s efforts to re‑enter the competitive regional jet market. Unveiled in 2023 as a modernised successor to the original Superjet 100, the aircraft incorporates an all‑composite wing, a wider‑cabin fuselage and state‑of‑the‑art avionics derived from the Russian “Karat” glass‑cockpit suite. Powered by two upgraded Pratt & Whitney PW1400G Geared Turbofan engines, the Superjet New achieves a 15 percent reduction in fuel consumption and meets the latest ICAO emission standards. Its 75‑seat configuration, enhanced sound‑proofing and improved cabin pressure systems target both airline economics and passenger comfort on routes up to 3,400 km.

Historically, the Superjet programme marked the first post‑Soviet civil aircraft designed for global operators, and the New variant seeks to restore confidence after earlier reliability challenges. By integrating Western engine technology with indigenous airframe advancements, Sukhoi aims to offer a cost‑effective alternative to the Embraer E‑190 and Airbus A220 families. The aircraft’s entry into service is expected to bolster Russia’s aerospace export portfolio, stimulate domestic supply chains, and signal a renewed commitment to contemporary, environmentally conscious regional aviation.
