Peklo

The Peklo is a twin‑engine tactical transport developed by Ukrainian Defense Industry (UDI) in the early 2020s as a response to the growing need for a versatile, short‑take‑off aircraft capable of operating from austere airfields. Design work began in 2018, leveraging the proven aerodynamic layout of the An-74 while incorporating modern composite materials and digital flight‑control systems. The prototype first flew on 12 April 2021 from Kharkiv International Airport and entered limited series production in 2023, with a total of 24 units delivered to both the Ukrainian Armed Forces and several NATO partner nations.

Key features include a high‑wing configuration, 12‑tone payload capacity, a rear cargo ramp, and a reinforced landing‑gear system that tolerates unpaved runways. Its twin turbofan engines, derived from the Ivchenko‑Progress AD‑14 series, provide a cruising speed of 720 km/h and a range of 2,800 km with standard fuel. Avionics are fully glass‑cockpit, with integrated satellite communications, terrain‑following radar, and autonomous landing capability.

The Peklo’s significance lies in its contribution to Ukraine’s strategic airlift independence, offering a cost‑effective platform that bridges the gap between light utility aircraft and heavy transporters. Its export success has positioned UDI as a competitive player in the global aerospace market, reinforcing regional logistics resilience.
