Lasta 95

The Lasta 95 is a primary trainer aircraft produced by Utva Aviation Industry, a Serbian manufacturer. Designed in the early 1990s to replace older trainers, the Lasta 95 made its first flight in 1995 and entered service with the Yugoslav Air Force shortly thereafter. The lightweight, low‑wing monoplane is built of metal and incorporates a tricycle landing gear, a fully enclosed cockpit and a side‑by‑side seating arrangement for instructor and student. Powered by a reliable Lycoming O‑360‑A4G piston engine delivering 180 hp, it offers a maximum speed of about 210 km/h, a service ceiling of 5,000 m and a range of 800 km, making it suitable for basic flight instruction, aerobatics and liaison duties. Its simple, robust design reduces maintenance costs and allows operation from grass strips. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s the Lasta 95 became the cornerstone of pilot training in the Serbian Air Force and was exported to several Balkan and African nations. The aircraft’s durability, economical operation and forgiving handling have cemented its reputation as an effective platform for introducing new pilots to modern aviation. Today, the Lasta 95 continues to be supported with modern avionics upgrades, ensuring its relevance for contemporary training programs.
